Scholarship for High School and College Education
This program, known as Education for Africa (EFA), mainly supports high-school education and university undergraduate education of bright and needy students. It helps not only students from the slum but from all over the country. It supports concrete students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to finish their high-school education due to poverty.
Conditions for selection of students and communication with sponsors
In order to achieve the main objective of this project, we ensure transparency in the selection of needy students. The EFA board comprises professional social workers who identify and analyse every case. We have developed specific conditions for students’ selection and communication with sponsors, enhanced by a proper coordination mechanism between the coordinators in Kenya and in the Czech Republic.
For students
- The project supports only students from poor families in the slums and other related regions in Kenya. We give special preference to orphans and observe gender equality.
- We select only students with excellent performance in their last year of primary school or first year of high school (average minimum grade B− for girls and B plain for boys) — students with the potential to receive government loans to continue their education after high school.
- The coordinators meet the students during holidays to offer mentorship and career guidance.
- Students volunteer to participate in community activities during holidays as deemed appropriate by AFA management.
For sponsors
- Before any sponsorship, the coordinator presents a picture, an education report form and official fee confirmation from the student’s school.
- The sponsor gets direct contact with the school through the official telephone number and address. Contact for the student is also given wherever possible.
- At the end of every semester, the student writes a motivation letter to the sponsor, delivered through the coordinator.
- Confirmation of all monies paid for school fees is ensured by the coordinator.
- Sponsorship is a free-will commitment — a sponsor may decide to pay the whole school fee or just part of it, depending on their ability.

Conclusion
This program seeks to help change the plight of children whose future would otherwise be completely without hope. We believe that education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change not only a community but the world as a whole. By supporting any needy student, you participate in the process of bringing that change. The project is open to individuals, churches and any organization interested in supporting a concrete student. We are very grateful and thankful to all those willing to support this project.
