This year in July, our project celebrated yet another success by seeing a group of students graduate from our computer programs. This graduation highlighted the successful completion of the one-year computer programs organized by project Africa for Africa in Kenya.
In total, thirty students successfully finished their computer training and were awarded certificates by the head of the project, Dr. Phanuel Osweto. The graduation was attended by all other board members of the project in Kenya, led by Eng. Nixon Lenaiyara, Pastor Dazwet Lubanga, Mr. Joseck Kisundi and Dr. Dadline Sai. During the ceremony, other students who have been beneficiaries of the education support program attended and spoke to express their gratitude for the support they have received.
Additionally, we are proud to have extended our assistance to orphans from the children’s home Scream Africa since 2010 by providing food, clothes, education and other necessary support.
Overview of the project
The computer program, launched in 2010, was designed to offer technical training to youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, including orphans and students from the slums. The primary goal was to equip participants with digital literacy and computer programming skills to enhance their employability in today’s technology-driven job market. The course has so far supported 709 students and covers key areas such as:
- Basic computer skills: computer operations, internet use and essential software such as Microsoft Office.
- Graphic design: training in tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Data entry and management: spreadsheets and databases for administrative roles.
- Web development: creating websites from scratch and managing web content.
- Programming basics: an introduction to programming languages and artificial intelligence.
Impact of the project
The skills acquired through the program have significantly boosted the employability of our graduates. Many are now well-positioned to seek employment in sectors including IT, administration, education and marketing. Some participants have also expressed an interest in starting their own businesses as freelancers, particularly in web design and digital content creation.
Support for orphans and vulnerable youth
Through the generous contributions of our sponsors, we have been able to pay school fees, provide laptops and learning materials, and offer counselling and mentorship to orphans from the slums and at the Scream Africa orphanage. The education program has so far supported 60 students, 50 children now live at the Scream Africa children’s home, and three students received support in September 2024 to study a hairdressing course.
Gratitude to our sponsors
None of this would have been possible without the steadfast support of our sponsors, the coordination by the Prague diocese of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, and all those whose generosity has transformed the lives of these young people. Thank you!
